Publishing and drafts

Write posts, comments and replies in an editor that styles Markdown as you type. Nothing you write gets lost.

Starting a post

Tap the pencil at the top of Home or Feed. A post has a title (up to 255 characters), an optional source link and the text in Markdown (up to 20,000 characters). Publish sends it to TabNews and opens it right away.

The editor

The Markdown stays exactly as TabNews will receive it, while headings, bold, italics, code and quotes take shape as you type.

The Markdown Shortcuts at the end add a title, bold, italics, a link, a list, a quote or a code block where the cursor is, or around what you selected. A blank line starts a new paragraph, and TabNews keeps every line break.

Drafts

  • On this device: what you type saves itself as you write, for each post, reply or edit, and comes back when you reopen it. It goes away when you send it or tap Discard Draft.
  • On TabNews: Save as TabNews Draft keeps it in your account without publishing. Drafts saved from Tably wait in Drafts, under On TabNews, where you can publish, update or delete them.

Touch and hold the pencil to open Drafts.

Note

Drafts saved on the TabNews website don't show up in Tably, because TabNews doesn't share them with apps.

Comments and replies

Tap Comment below a post, or touch and hold a comment and choose Reply. A comment can have up to 20,000 characters and shows up in the tree as soon as it's sent.

Editing and deleting

Your posts have Edit and Delete in the More menu, and your comments have them when you touch and hold. Deleting removes the content from TabNews for everyone and can't be undone.

When TabNews says no

  • If you already have a post whose title starts the same way, change the beginning of the title.
  • TabNews blocks new posts while recent ones of yours are rated as not relevant. Delete those first.

Whenever something fails, your text stays in the editor.
